For freedom : the story of a French spy, by Kimberly Brubaker Bradley.
A true story, set in World War II France in a town named Cherbourgh. The story is written from the view of Suzanne David, a thirteen year old girl who is trying to make it to the big time in Opera. As a top notch singer, Suzanne must travel throughout the city numerous times a day for costume fittings, haircuts, rehearsals, etc. As she goes about her career, the leader of the Cherbourgh resistance, after noticing her frequent traveling, offers her a job as a spy. Suzanne then goes through hardships as her spy work interferes with her family and social life.
This sounds interesting. I can imagine that Suzanne’s daily travels would provide the perfect cover for gathering or delivering information. Thanks for the recommendation.
Wow! I just finished reading Stephanie Meyer’s book
Twilight.
Isabella has to move from her mother’s house in Phoenix to her father’s house in the Seattle area.
In the middle of the school year. The author manages to capture perfectly just how hard that is. Any of us who have done this (I had to many times since my father was in the Navy) will relate. She makes the character “Bella” pretty, but not perfect. How refreshing to find a character who is a danger to herself and others in P.E.
Enter the mysterious Edward. Once again Ms. Meyer captures the thing perfectly with instances when Bella THINKS maybe he likes her, but then again…
Lots of tension between the two as they try to fight off their mutual attraction. This is really important since he’s a vampire. Come on though, who would be able to resist a good-looking bad-boy who tells you it would be better for you to stay away from him and then shows up everywhere you happen to be? You can check this book out from the library or from my shelf. I’ll be interested to hear from you about what you think about this book.
I just finished reading “A Child Called “It”". It was intense, disturbing, eye-opening and up lifting. David was a regular boy before his mother became a drunk and started to treat him like a slave after a few years David is finally freed and sent to a group home. I cried, I smiled and practilly retched. I also twitched. This story is not for the weak of stomach or heart but if you can read, read it because it is a truly amazing story of survival and triumph.
I read the book, Speak, by Laurie Halse Anderson.
Melinda Sordino and her best friends went to an end of the year party with alcohol. Melinda was raped and called the cops. Her best friends soon became her “ex-best friends,” and everyone in the entire school hated her. She went through high school in silence, barely talking to anyone. She hasn’t told anyone about what happened the night of the party, and doesn’t intend to. She tries to keep the thoughts of that night away from her head, but they won’t leave her alone. She see’s “IT” around school, Andy Evans, the boy who made this entire thing happen. She gets chills when she see’s him or hears his voice. But what will happen when Melinda tells the truth to her ex-best friend?
This is my favorite book, I recomend this book to many other girls.
Thats cool Mrs.Reynolds.

Im still reading so I’ll tell you more when i get farther along.
the book that im reading is called “As i lay dying” by william faulkner. it takes place in Mississippi in the 1920’s.The conflict in this book is hen taking the dead boby of Addie to her burial site.the Bundren family have to go against the forces of nature and injury in crossing a river to her burial place. The Bundrens struggle & and have second thoughts about taking her body all the way to Jefferson Mississippi. the first part of this book is confusing but as you get to about the 5th chapter everything makes more sence.
Hmm As I Lay Dying sounds like an interesting book, not to mention it’s the name of one of my favorite heavy metal bands. Right now im ready Candy by Kevin Brooks. It’s about this kid named Joe, he comes from a good family and raised on the good side of town. Untill he meets and falls for this girl Candy. Candy’s lifestyle is way different from Joe’s. She’s a prostitute and a drug addict. Joe is willing to risk everything to save this girl’s life. It’s a teen read and a very good book.
I am reading Net Force by Tom Clancey. I have not read much but so far it is good. So far, there has only been action and that is why it is good. It takes place in 2010. The director of Net Force is assasinated. Deputy Director Alex Michaels and his team have to find out who is responsible.
I am reading “This Summer” by Sarah Dessen. So far it is a good book! Its about a a girl named Haven, and her father left her mom for someone he works with. This left the family speechless. And Haven doesnt like her new future “stepmom.” Now Everybody is at the church 10 min. before they are getting married and Haven doesnt know what to think and is overwhelmed in her pink poofie bridesmaid dress.
yea well i just finished reading a book called, “Phantom”, by Terry Goodkibnd. It is the last book in the Sword of TRuth series and they are all pretty interesting. it is about a young Woods Guide named Richard Cypher, who meets a young woman being fallowed by a gang of men in masks and he helps her to kill them and he finds out that he is the lost heir to a long line of Rahls and he is sent off to kill his real father, who killed his stepfather while in the process of looking for Richard, who is the first War Wizzard to have been born in over 3,000 years and after he kills his father he becomes the ruler of the land of D’Hara.
So its a pretty well-rounded book if u like things being torn apart, ripped apart, or just dying for no reason at all
I am reading the book “The Devil Wears Prada” by Lauren Weisberger. In the first few pages you can already tell that the book is going to be way different than the movie. This is a good thing in my point of view because after i am finished i can compare and contrast the two storys. I think that its kind of hard to understand because everything moves by so fast. Hopefully it will slow down and become really interesting.
The book I read was “Message in a Bottle” by Nicholas Sparks. The book is about this lady, named Teresa, who finds a bottle with a message in it on the beach and she puts the message in her newspaper column. She eventually found two more of his letters and she thinks she fallen in love with the man who wrote the letters. She does a little research and finds where he lives. She went down there and meets him. They both like each other but he lost his wife three years ago and is having a hard time letting her go.
I am reading If We Kiss by Rachael Vail. This book is outstanding so far, because every girl always wants her first kiss to be oh so romantic and just right. This book is more a chick flick, guys would think its too romantic, and gross!
So far, the main character Charlotte got her first kiss by the dreamy player in her school Kevin. She wants more with Kevin, but she found him at her party she held making out with her best friend Tes. Charlotte hasnt told anyone about her kiss with Kevin. Now shes going out with the goody good kid George, which her mother is in love with. She is using George to get Kevin off her mind. She hopes by going out with George Kevin will get jealous, and want Charlotte.. Let’s just see what happenes with this whole drama/love/not love relationship!
I am reading Speak, a book by Laurie Halse Anderson. This book is about a young teenager who has just started High School, and all her friends from middle school act as if they have never seen eachother. She is an outcast, but makes a friend with a new girl, who wants to be involved with school and not be outcasts. The reason why all of her old best bfriends don’t talk to her is at the end of summer party she called the cops and they got busted and ever sinces then they have hated her. Now the only place she feels comfortable is in her own head.
I am reading Just Listen, by Sarah Dessen. So far, it is a story of a Girl named Annabell who seemed like the she was living a perfect life, good family, a model, good friends. But, then as you keep reading it starts talking about her old bestfriend Sophie, and how when she lost her as a friend, things started going down hill. Annabell and Sophie stopped being friends in one crucial night. Also, you hear about how they became friends. From Sophie moving to the nieghborhood, to Annabel misjudging her, and even Annabell’s sister has an opinoon on the new girl on the street. I can not put this book down. As you read it, ideas of what had happened that night run through your mind. I can’t wait until she explains what really happened. This is a good book for people who like books on real life situations.
I am Reading A Million Little Pieces by James Frey.
I am not done with it yet but so far I really like this book. It keeps me reading and not many books do that.
James is addicted to drugs, an alcoholic, and a criminal. He wakes up on a plane with his 4 front teeth missing, a broken noes, and a whole in his cheek. After landing he gets checked into a Treatment center by the help of his Family. After being there for a while he is told if he uses again that he would die. So far James has been sober for a couple weeks the longest he has been since he was ten.
I recommend “A Million Little Peices” by james fray. It is the only book that makes me want to read an read on an on and never stop.its about a guy that wakes up on a plane after a rough night that he dosn`t remember at all and he has no idea where he is going. he hurts every where his four front teeth are knocked out,he has a broken nose an he has a hole in his cheek.all that happened to him cause he is a drug addict an an alcoholic.an now he is in rehab.
The book i recommend most is by James Frey. Its called a million little peices. This book is about a guy who wakes up one morning on an airplane covered in blood and hurting everywhere. This was the begining of his journey through rehab. Evne though this book is fake it still teaches alot and gives you different points on things.
currently i was reading TWILIGHT, but i finished it. alot of people where saying it was good, and it was. i would recomend it to people who can say words well because its got some complex words in it. for smart people. the story itself is a good one. it also has good characters in it. theres the sequal to it and ill probably read that when i get a chance, or chose to. but it was a good book over all
I have just started reading ” Jeremey Mcgrath wide open” and I am really excited to have picked out this book its not only a really iteresting but it grabs my attention really well iI just cant wait to finish it.
Holy Cow! I just finished reading New Moon by Stephanie Meyers, the sequel to Twilight. Our heroine, Bella, is quite the magnet for trouble. The author has thrown werewolves into the mix. Bella has some interesting choices to make and suddenly Edward has a rival. I don’t know which of the two candidates I would choose, but I can’t wait for the next installment to find out how it all turns out. WOW!!
Mrs. R
i have a favorite book called CRANK it was one of the best books ive ever read. usually for me books pass and go but id have to say, this book changeg my point of veiw on many things.
CRANK is about a girl who gose between albuquerque and mexico (i think) and finds a fantasic ( and pretty cute) boy. only problum is, is that he has a girlfriend who acidently falls off the building and ends up in the hospital. after that mishap, she stumbles apon the monster-CRANK along with the boy who took her to the monsters cave from the start.
its a really good book and i recomend it to anyone who likes short and simple stories.
☻I was reading “MAXIMUM RIDE:school is out forever”.It was very good.I would recommend it to people who like twists. Mrs.R said I would like it and she had me read the first and well it should be rather obvious that I did since I am typing about the second.
I won’t say much more except read the book it is great.☺
sincerely,
♥~kk~♠
I just got done reading Twilight also. It was a very good book. Honestly, it kind of scared me, kept me on the edge of my seat. I finshed it in 2days. I couldn’t put it down. It’s about this girl named Bella, who moved from Phoenix, AZ to Forks, WA and she is worried she won’t fit in and no-one one will like her. But in days, guys are asking her to dances. She ends up falling for a vampire, and because of that, it causes a bunch of trouble. I recommend it for anyone who loves vampire books.
I couldn’t decide out of these two books that i wanted to read. since i had watched the movie i wanted to see how much of a difference the book was. Well while i was reading “The Notebook” i did relize there was a big difference. It was such a good book. I would read it again anyday. The Notebook is one of those books that it doesn’t take you a long time to read it. It goes by pretty fast.
I deffinitly Recomend this book if you havent read it and if you like romantic books!!!!:)
Devil Wears Prada
By: Lauren Weisberger
This book has gotten really good, I can’t stop reading it. The movie and the book are very different but it’s still fun to read. I don’t know why Andrea puts up with all of her boss’ demands. Her boss wants so much from her and Andrea kills herself trying to complete it all without looking stupid. Andrea also has a hard time keeping up with her friends and boyfriend without missing work. I can’t wait to read and see what happens in the end. I hope she finds a way to balance everything out in her life. I am interested in reading another book just like it after I am finish.
I recently finshed New Moon, the second book to Twilight. It was amazing. There are werewolfs in this one. I can’t wait till the third one comes out. It is called Midnight Sun and its to be relesed sometime in June or July. It is Twilight from Edward’s view. You can read the first chapter on http://www.stephaniemeyers.com
The book I just finished was “True Believer” by Nicholas Sparks. Its about a guy who’s an expert on exposing things people think is supernatural. One day he gets a letter on some strange lights in a cemetery down in a little town of Boone Creek, North Carolina. So he drove down to investigate. While he’s down there he meets a woman named Lexie. While they both love each other she doesn’t want to admit it. She’s afraid he just going to leave just like all the other guys.
At first it was boring but then it gets good.
For whoever liked “Romeo and Juliet”, but doesn’t want the whole cast to die, you should read “Scribbler of Dreams”. It’s about two families that despise each other, and the main character goes to school in her rival family’s turf, but she changes her name. She then meets someone that understands her, who ends up being from the other family! It’s really good and is written with journal entries and is unlike anything I’ve read before.
I just finished reading “That summer” by, Sarah Dessen! It was really good. The book was about this teenage girl’s life, and it gets kind of messed up! Her dad leaves her mom and gets married, and she doesnt like her new stepmom. Then her stepmom gets pregnant, and nothing is going the way she would like it too. She feels very alone. Plus her sister, who she was very close to moved away and now shes all alone in the house with her mom.I recomend this book, it is very good.
I just got done reading “My Sister’s Keeper” by Jodi Picoult. It’s about this couple who have two children (Jesse and Kate) and the daughter is diagnosed with leukemia. She needs bone marrow and no one in the family matches her. So the parents have another daughter, named Anna, who is a designer baby to match Kate’s bone marrow. Anna’s whole life she been a donor for Kate. Then Kate needs a kidney transplant and Anna has had enough, so she files medical emancipation from her parents.
It’s a really good book. I enjoyed reading it.
Sharkman Six
by Owen West
I like war books mainly and if your looking for a good war book then i strongly recomend this book. But if your looking for a book that is a mushy gooshy love story or if you want a happy ending to your book this is not the book for you. This is a book that really strongly shows how liberals screwed over our military over. It is about a lieutenant in the marines special forces or recon. He is sent over to somalia to fight all the war lords and feed the woman and children of somolia. Repeatedly he gets screwed over by the leaders of todays military. For instance when he goes over there and gets the country and war lords basically under control. But then the UN comes in and basically says we’ll take it from here. So now he has to answer to the stupid UN general. If you are a liberal and think that you are right about every thing you should definitely read this book. It really got me riled up and angry.
I am currently reading The Perks Of Being A Wallflower, and it is a very interesting book! Its about a boy named charlie who is in the ninth grade, and he is discovering new things. He’s slowly discovering who he really is and he is experimenting with new things. It’s basically about the perspective of a regular teenage boys life. He disscuses his thoughts, feelings, and his activities in great detail and depth.
I have been reading a series called Cirque Du Freak. I have read the 1st one and it got me hooked! The 1st book is about a young boy named Darren Shan he is a regular boy but him and his friend Steve find a flyer in Steve’s brothers room, its about a freak show. So they show it to all their friends and of course all of them want to go but the buyer can only buy two tickets. So Steve Buys the 2 tickets and he keeps one then he throws one in the air and the one that catches it gets to go with him. Darren Cactches it and that night he goes with Steve to the Show.
It Starts at 12 a.m so they snuck out of their houses and met at a broken down buliding and to Darrens suprise the show is in there. The show started with the bearded lady and stuff like that but then there was this one act that caught Darrens attencion and it was Maddam Octa she is a very big and posionous spider but her “controler” was Mr. Creepsly.
And he would do tricks like she would wound a web across his face and stuff like that. Then the act was over and Darren LOVES Spiders and he wanted to have Maddam Octa, but Darren went to whisper something into Steves ear but his eyes were fixed on Mr. Creepsly until he left the stage. And Darren asked him about this and he said that he knew Mr.Creepsly.
The show was over and Darren was leaving but then Steve said that he wanted to stay and he told Darren that he needed to go home and that he will catch up with him later. Darren said that he would go but he sayed in the building. He looked at where Steve was and he was talking to Mr.Creepsly and saying stuff that he was a vampire and that he wanted to become his assistant. And Mr. Creepsly said ok but he needed to test his blood. And he did and he spat it out and yells “BAD BLOOD” and Steve said that he will grow up to be a vampire hunter and kill him. And Darren is scarred up in the balcany.
The next couple of weeks at school Darren avoids Steve then Steve comes to Darrens House and he asks him way have you been avoiding me and darren says that he saw him and Mr. Creepsly called him EVIL. And Steve gets mad and he pins him to his bed and yells him and say that he is evil and all that stuff. And then he gets off of him and he storms off.
That night Darren Goes to that building and he goes to the basement and he steals maddam Octa and he leaves a note on the vampires coffin and it says that ” I stole your spider and dont come back for her or ill kill her and ill kill you Steve Leanord” And Darren takes her and he teaches her to do tricks on his mouth and stuff.
A few weeks later Steve comes back to Darrens house to apologize. And he came to his room and he did then Darren shows Steve maddam Octa and he does some tricks on steve but his sister walks in but then at that momment maddam octa bit steve and he colapsed and Darren caught the Spider and he told his sister not to say anything. And they make it look like a bee has stung him.
He has been in the hospital for a couple of weeks and the docters have been researching but they cant find any anit-venom for it. So Darrens sister had told Darren that if steve was gunna die she was going tell that it was a spider. And Darren went to the old building and he looked for the vampire and he had asked him for the anti-venom but the vampire had said that he wants darren to become his assisant or Steve dies. And Darren said yes. He cut the edge of his finger nails and darrens then put them together and “bloods” him only a little bit though or else he would become a full-vampire. Then they go to the hospital and put the anti venom in the iv.
And steve gets better. But Darren had run away from Mr. creepsly and he had almost bit his sister on the neck FOR BLOOD!!!! So He went back to the building and he told him what he had almost done. And he said that that will keep on happening if he doesnt want to come with him and he said that he will go with him now. But they have to stage his death so they wont be suspsous. The Vampire throws him out of the window but brakes his neck so he wont die and he madfe Darren drink this potion that made his heart beat so low that they cant hear it. And they had a funeral for him in his house but and nite someone had come in and poked him in the toe. And they bury him.
But at nite Mr.Creepsly dug him up. And when Darren got out of the coffin he when to rest by the tombstone while Mr. Creepsly put the dirt back. Someone grabed Darren from the back and put a arrow at his heart and they said that they know what he is and they will kill him if Darren moves. And Darren Looks back and it is Steve and he asks him why does he want to kill him and he said that he betrayed him by becomeing a vampire and he knows this by pokeing his toe and it not bleeding he knows his not dead. and mr. creepsly called for Darren and darren told steve that the vampire would kill him if he sees him. Steve Runs away but yells that he will kill them when he gets older.
And thats the end of book 1

I hope you do not mind my adding some comments, coming to you from Concord, NH–from a MS Librarian who’s also known as “Mrs. R” or Mrs. R-E.
I too am eagerly awaiting Stephanie Meyer’s, “Eclipse” to get more of the romance between Bella and Edward. As Meyer’s t-shirt slogan says, “Only a vampire can love you forever”. I’ve never been a fan of typical vampire books, but the fact that Meyer’s characters are so likeable, and the romance is not typical but full of unresolved tension, well enough said. Also our Edward and family is not the enemy and not as frightening because their drink of choice is not human but animal…but then again–what will Edward to about Bella? P.S. There are several soon to be freshmen here who also can’t wait for this final book! And is the movie still in the works?
